Cotton Fields a floorstanding speaker with Expolinear drivers as in Hobby Hifi 3/2008

Cotton Fields aus Hobby HiFi 3/2008
Technical data
- size (HxWxD): 950x210x280 mm
- impedance: 8 Ohm
- crossover frequency: 2.3 kHz
- sensitivity: 86 dB (2.83V/1m)
- frequency range (-3dB): 42-30 000 Hz

The Cotton Fields is a speaker for special cases equipped with
- Expolinear RT-3 pro magnetostat and
- Expolinear Swans F6a midrange driver with cotton diaphragm

The Cotton Fields is a specialist above all because it's well suited for impedance critical amplifiers, heavily dampened rooms and for placement close to walls and corners.

Additionally the speaker stands out against most others due to the yellow diaphragm.

Excerpt from the review in Hobby HiFi:
"Placed in our listening room and after an extensive run-in period the Cotton Fields displayed a vivacious and lively sound. The music was alive. The dynamics of the drums (The O-Zone Percussion Group, Manger Test CD) electrified the audience. This was noticeable from triangle to bass drum which seemed to be somewhat tauter than usual and thus showed a tremendous attention to detail. To add even more body to the sound we placed the speakers a few centimetres closer to the rear wall. Now the sound turned out to be even rich, voluminous and almost forceful, while all details and the exemplary resolution remained. As a result, this speaker is one of the very few that don't have to be placed away from the walls, a real problem solver. An excerpt from Vivaldi's Four Seasons, played on original instruments (also from the Manger Test CD) proved that this speaker possesses an outstanding tonal balance. Great! In addition, this type of music revealed the exceptional three-dimensionality, culminating in an exquisite width and depth of the sound stage. Marla Glen's "The Cost Of Freedom" showed a certain dynamic talent; the strength of this speaker is, however, the reproduction of less energetic material. At excessive levels the sound becomes bright and disintegrated. At a slightly reduced volume the sound integrates again - the limit is easily noticeable, allowing a gradual approach to the optimal level." ...

Impedance correction for Cotton Fields

If you intend using this speaker with a valve amp an impedance correction should be used.
We recommend the following components:
- 0.68 mH air core coil / 0.7 mm
- 22 uF ELCO, non-etched
- 10 Ohm ceramic resistor, 20W
Price of impedance correction per speaker, to be mounted on wood   EUR 8,40
