Dipo 1       as in Klang+Ton 3/2005

Dipo 1 aus Klang+Ton 3/2005
Theory on dipoles and three-dimensionality
Technical data:
- impedance: 8 Ohm
- nominal SPL: 83 dB
- frequency range (-8dB): 55-20 000 Hz
- crossover frequency: around 250 Hz
- size (HxWxD): 119 x 19.3 x 31.2 cm
- speaker type: dipole with bass driver
Gerd Lommersum who designed a range of excellent loudspeaker (Quintadena 1, MPR 2 MXT, MPR 2 DAP-XT, Lagrange XT, Pascal ...) also designed the Dipo 1, a dipolar speaker showing up the typical advantage (openness due to rear radiation) and avoiding disadvantages (exaggeration of rear radiation and distortion caused by basket and magnet). To achieve this one driver radiates forward while the second radiates rearward. The rear driver's volume may be adjusted to suit individual tastes and different room conditions.

Two Vifa 10 BG 120/6 full range drivers with black glass fibre diaphragms are being used. Bass is provided by a PLW 14 232/8.

Review by K+T 3/2005:
The promising test results didn't really describe what we experienced during our listening session - a phenomenal homogeneity of the twin full range driver, paired with the excellent bass provided by the PLW 14. This excellent bass performance should be seen within the bounds of possibility provided by such a small bass driver. Low bass feasts like coming from a subwoofer should not be expected.

Liberated from the burden of low frequencies the small full range drivers are displaying a devastating form. When placed correctly, sound reproduction is completely detached from the loudspeaker, showing an openness and attention to detail that never lack a tweeter. Particularly impressive is, like basically every point source, a precisely contoured image in conjunction with a wide but not exaggerated three-dimensionality.

The tonal general impression is full of homogeneity and appears to be forming a uniform and integrated whole. There is no superficial showmanship, the music is just there, without any decoration. It's hardly possible to find a higher praise for loudspeakers.
