NT 13 aus ADM 11/2006The Newtronics NT13 Neo is a satellite with Audaphon ribbon tweeter. During his search for a high quality satellite / subwoofer or home cinema system, Udo Wohlgemuth had the idea to combine a Newtronics magnetically shielded bass driver with an Audaphon ribbon.

The result was a loudspeaker producing an airy sound even for a home cinema. The system is also suitable for a PC if the listener places great demands on sound reproduction.

The sub was equipped with a powerful amplifier to ensure that a second bass driver may be connected. The sub's cabinet is not very deep and, therefore, suitable for smaller rooms.

Excerpt of the review by ADM 11/2006

... "At first, some acoustic guitar strumming by Eric Clapton and friends came from the speaker duo, trying to pump up a showroom that is admittedly too large for the speakers. Not only the atmosphere on stage was reproduced by the twin-pack with refreshing realism. "Well, are you ready?" the artist - sitting half right - asked, after a few introductory chords by his companions; everyone of them answering with a "yeah" coming from their respective positions. And immediately, two acoustic guitarists, a bass guitar player and a percussionist, all with enough freedom of movement, took the clapping along audience on a cheerful, musical journey. A humming amplifier was clearly noticeable when Mr Slowhand announced "Layla", the love of his life and ex-wife of George Harrison. The vocals were without any strain and edginess and appeared dead centre in the midst of his comrades-in-arms, certainly thanks to am excellent tweeter. The bass was somewhat more stretched when Dire Straits appeared on stage performing "Sultans of Swing". It's true that bass and drums were tight and clear, but now the room with more than 40 m² showed, especially after having listened to the same song on larger speakers. I don't doubt the enthusiasm of the NT 13 Neo, but a room of 12 or 16 m² would have been better. That was the moment to employ the Petit Sub 20. Since I am not too fond of satellite/sub combinations I connected twin subs right away. Placed next to the 2 way speakers and connected to the second RCA outputs of my SAC-Epsilon, I instantly took notice of the bass footing spreading out adequately over the entire room. I had to stop turning the volume control just below the 9 o'clock position, otherwise the bass would have overshadowed everything else. At 70 Hz crossover frequency and inverted phase I achieved the perfect setting with a 3 dB boost at 35 Hz. And now the bass was sufficient even for Yello's "Baby". In stereo mode I didn't limit the satellites' bass. But for home cinema, where spectacular sound effects have to be reproduced, the setting "small" is recommended. Otherwise the small 13 cm driver would probably bottom. Resolution and dynamics of the NT 13 Neo in conjunction with either one or two Petit Sub 20 are certainly good enough - even for demanding home cinema. The legitimate question whether such a good tweeter is noticeable in a home cinema system I can now answer with a resounding "yes". The Audaphon's pleasantly unobtrusive, detailed differentiation of high frequencies is not only good for relaxed reproduction of music material."
